Day 1:

  1. Introduction to Solcore & computer modelling (lecture)
  2. Integration for limiting current, limiting voltage model
  3. Shockley-Queisser efficiency limit and detailed balance (DB) junction model (lecture)

Day 2:

  1. Introduction to drift-diffusion junction model, depletion approximation (lecture) & spectral irradiance
  2. The depletion approximation: Si cell and GaAs cell
  3. Optical modelling using the transfer-matrix model (TMM):
    1. TMM introduction
    2. Optimizing an anti-reflection coating
  4. Planar III-V on Si tandem solar cell

Day 3:

  1. Optical absorption in textured Si: ray-tracing for pyramid textures, rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) for nano-scale gratings
  2. III-V/Si cells with light-trapping structures:
    1. Planar III-V wafer-bonded to silicon with planar front using e.g. epoxy
    2. Planar III-V bonded to textured silicon with diffraction grating on rear
  3. Conformal perovskite on silicon tandem cells
